"Hours are backed by goods and services people will buy...Dollars are backed by a $5.5 trillion national debt."
Ithaca Hours founder Paul Glover
Barter Hours is a local barter system that uses locally-printed currency for barter exchange in the Las Vegas, NM area.
Unlike spending dollars at a national chain store, local barter using Barter Hours directly benefits our local economy!
Barter Hours:
For just $5/year, each member receives two Barter Hours and a Members' Goods and Services Directory that lists every member (including both individuals and businesses) and the goods and services they offer.
Each "Barter Hour" is worth one hour of service or labor, or approximately ten dollars cash (Barter Hours are not redemable for cash, though members are free to trade them for cash). We also provide half- and quarter-hour notes.
Members arrange their own trades using Barter Hours, cash, labor, goods or a mixture of any of these—it's up to each member in a trade to determine what form(s) of payment both can agree on.*
We also organize local events to facilitate trading, or just to have fun (see the Members' Page to read more about Barter Hours events)...and don't forget to check out our links to alternative-economy groups and articles. If you want to learn more about Barter Hours, please contact Dianne Lindsay at 426-1468 and join us at the next new member orientation meeting.
If you live in the Las Vegas area and want to join our community, use our handy Membership Application Page and join the fun!
If you don't live in San Miguel or Mora counties, contact us to learn how to start a Barter Hours program in your community.
The Directory is like the Yellow Pages—it is not a recommendation of any of the members. The Barter Hours organization is not responsible for the work or goods listed. Each individual sale, barter or trade is the responsibility of the people involved.
Remember, the skills and goods of local people back Barter Hours—they are legal and taxable, but most importantly they energize our community!
